French Style Painted Salon Sofa (Two-Seat Settee) circa 1880–1900
An elegant late 19th-century French-style painted salon sofa featuring a graceful serpentine seat and twin oval upholstered backs separated by a decorative central finial. The carved wooden frame displays refined classical detailing, including scrolling arms, fluted tapering legs and carved mounts, all raised on original small brass castors. The painted finish has gently worn with age, creating a soft patina that enhances the character of the piece and complements the striped upholstery with repeating fleur-de-lis motifs.
Decorative yet comfortable, this charming two-seat settee would work beautifully in a drawing room, bedroom, hallway or dressing room where a refined French accent is desired. Dating from the late 19th century (circa 1880–1900), the sofa combines decorative craftsmanship with practical scale, making it both an attractive period feature and a versatile interior piece.
