Set of 4 Solid Oak Armchairs with Cane & Rush Seats – Early 20th Century English
A good quality set of four solid oak framed armchairs, comprising two pairs. One pair features traditional hand-woven cane seats and backs, while the other pair features traditional hand-woven rush seats in a classic envelope weave pattern, all combining comfort with classic country house character. The chairs have shaped top rails with gently arched backs, oval caned panels, scroll-ended arms with carved detail, and turned front supports with stretchers for strength and stability—typical of well-made early 20th-century English furniture.
The canework is in very good condition, showing only light age-related variation that enhances character without affecting usability. The rush seats are tightly woven and in good order. The oak frames are sturdy and well-constructed, with a warm, rich patina and honest wear consistent with age. Comfortable and versatile, these chairs are ideal as desk chairs, occasional seating, or dining armchairs, fitting effortlessly into both traditional and modern interiors.
